COLBY JUNIOR COLLEGE - BANNER, PENNANT & 1958 BEANIE-CAP
Submitted for your consideration are three (3) felt items from COLBY JUNIOR COLLEGE in New London NH, which is currently known as Colby-Sawyer College. Prior to that the school had a few different incarnations. Christened as New London Academy in 1837, it became The New London Literary and Scientific Institution in 1854. The school was renamed Colby Academy in 1878, then Colby School for Girls. In 1927, the school became a Junior college, and took on the title of Colby Junior College for Women. In 1973, it became Colby College - New Hampshire...but not for long. In 1974, Colby College in Maine threatened to bring suit over naming rights. To keep the peace, New Hampshire promptly renamed their school, Colby-Sawyer College in 1975.
The beanie style Cap is apparently from 1958. It could be presumed that the BANNER and PENNANT are from same era, since all seem to be made from similar material, and came from same estate, but can't say for sure.
***** DIMENSIONS ***** (all approximate)
BANNER = 28" x 11"
Note: Excellent Condition! No maker's Tag.
PENNANT = 25" x 8 1/2" (not including Ties)
Note: Excellent Condition! Small Tag on reverse with following Text in KELLY GREEN;
THE FELT CRAFTERS
MADE IN U.S.A.
CAP = 11" (in Diameter, when flattened out; may sound large, but it's a small BEANIE Cap)
Note: Leather sweatband in Like New condition! Moderate amount of random pinholes on felt of cap. Could be done by moths, but I have also seen same pinholes on other felt beanies from this era(?). All LETTERS on Banner and Pennant are FULL. Evening sun put shadows on them in photos, but they are 100% present.
